At a local meeting concerning West Bath activity, participants outlined how two commercial licenses will be allocated and discussed seasonal closure dates that affect when commercial and recreational digging may occur.
A participant explained the allocation rule: "there's looks like there's going to be two commercial licenses available … anybody who has put in hours after that if they have 1 hour or up to 11 … will go into a lottery" while applicants who have already accumulated 12 hours receive priority for a license.
Meeting attendees named a few individuals discussed as potential license recipients (Angela, Nicole and Jessica) and said remaining licenses would go to those with the most logged hours if not otherwise claimed.
Speakers also discussed conservation programming pauses while ice remains and noted uncertainty about official closure dates; several different dates were mentioned during the meeting, including December 1, December 15, January 1 and a reference to a half hour after Dec. 31, but the transcript contains inconsistent recollections and no citation of a specific ordinance or statute.
No formal motion changing license rules was recorded during the meeting; the group reiterated that applicants and residents should contact local officials for clarification and said the next meeting will be the last Wednesday of January.
