The Village of Shelton Board of Trustees voted Jan. 15, 2026, to award a $3,600,000 construction contract for a new municipal swimming pool to Hackel Construction, Inc., of Ord, Nebraska, after an engineer presented bid results and recommended awarding to the lowest responsive bidder. Larry Steele of Miller & Associates told the board five contractors submitted bids ranging from $3,600,000 to $4,445,173, against the engineer’s opinion of probable construction costs of $3,577,000; he recommended accepting the low bid."It was the Engineer’s recommendation to accept the bids and award the contract to the lowest bidder," Steele said. The motion to accept the bids and award the contract was made by Trustee Keslar, seconded by Trustee Oberg, and carried with Trustees Roe, Keslar, Jensen and Oberg voting aye (Trustee Rabbe was absent).Following the award, the board directed the Village Clerk to advertise for a 2026 pool manager position to staff the new facility. The vote completes the board’s authorization to contract with Hackel Construction; the contract execution and scheduling of work will follow administrative review and any statutory timelines required for municipal contracting. The board took no other formal actions on pool financing or construction phasing at the meeting.
