Commission updates subdivision rules, stormwater compliance and approves paving plan

The Hamblen County Public Services Committee on June 15 approved an amendment to the county's subdivision regulations to increase cul‑de‑sac radii for new developments from 40 feet to 50 feet. Mr. McKini, who presented the amendment on behalf of county planning/highway staff, said the change accommodates side‑loader garbage trucks and school buses and makes turning easier at ends of new subdivisions.

The committee also approved an update to the county's stormwater program resolution to remain compliant with MS4 requirements. During questioning about whether the MS4 change would directly remediate long‑standing flooding in certain neighborhoods, the presenter said no — the MS4 resolution is a regulatory compliance measure, not a specific remediation plan for localized flooding.

Finally, the committee approved the highway department's paving list for the year, and staff agreed to make more detailed paving-location information available on the highway department website to help residents identify planned work in their neighborhoods.

All items passed the committee by voice vote.
