Council President Bill Smith used a short Community Minute to announce a June outreach by New Jersey American Water and its contractor, CDM Smith, to identify what material the water service lines into Clark homes are made of and whether they need replacement.
Smith said homeowners have two options to participate: a self-reporting web form that requires a photo of the pipe at the water meter, or a scheduled appointment for a door‑to‑door inspection by company representatives. "You can self-report or schedule an appointment," Smith said. He added that the self-report process "literally takes three minutes of your time using your cell phone."
Smith said that after submission residents will be contacted by New Jersey American Water within a week and the company will indicate whether a service line is copper or if it needs to be replaced. For residents who opt for an in-person visit, Smith said company staff will go door-to-door and will be wearing identification badges and branded vests.
For details on the self-report form and to schedule inspections, Smith directed residents to scan the QR code displayed in the video. The announcement did not specify who will pay for any replacements, how replacement decisions will be made, or whether any grant or financial-assistance programs are available.
