Harris Street construction underway; 4th Street storm sewer and traffic switch planned

Public works staff Matthew told the board Harris Street has officially started (notice to proceed issued June 1) and the final retainage payment to contractor DG Medina was paid, closing out the retainage milestone. The board and staff noted contract summaries and funding totals differ in the packet (a contract summary figure of 4,800,000 versus a funding figure around 5,300,000) and staff said that remaining deficiency work has kept the project within the larger budget.

Matthew also reported progress on 4th Street: storm sewer has been installed from the outfall up to the Wilson Street intersection and concrete has been poured in the first section from Houston to Sims. Staff said a traffic switch will be required soon, closing the Wilson portion and routing traffic through Sims; they emphasized communication with residents has been active and no major resident complaints were reported.

Staff said the city will publish a CIP project dashboard after the commission meeting that will track total budgets and construction status for all projects; the dashboard will be available on the city website and staff offered to send board members a link when it goes live.
