The Temple Terrace City Council authorized up to $50,000 June 16 to fund a downtown holiday-light program focused on the redevelopment corridor, with staff proposing initial installations along Bertha Palmer between Bullard Parkway and the Winn-Dixie.
Leisure Services Director Carl Langfeld presented vendor proposals and explained the approach: concentrate displays in year one to create visual impact and draw visitors downtown, then scale southward in subsequent years. Langfeld said vendors estimated LED strand life of about three seasons and that garlands and pole decorations can last a decade with proper storage.
Langfeld also said the city would install and store materials with public-works support and that banners along 56th Street could be funded through Chamber of Commerce sponsorships. Council authorized staff to proceed with a not-to-exceed $50,000 plan and asked staff to explore optional sponsorship and modest displays at the Family Recreation Complex, the Lightfoot Center and the library.
Vice Mayor and other councilmembers voiced support for concentrating the initial displays downtown to increase foot traffic for local businesses; the council moved and approved the funding authorization with no recorded opposition.
Staff will place orders with the selected vendor, pursue sponsorship opportunities, and return with any material changes to the plan or budget.
