Platte County approves SHSP grant to buy emergency management pickup

Platte County commissioners voted to approve the county
cceptance of a 2023 State Homeland Security Program (SHSP) grant to purchase an up‑fitted one‑ton pickup for the emergency management office.

The grant, described by staff as short‑term and valid under the SHSP allocation cycle, requires no county match. Commissioners discussed vehicle reliability concerns and confirmed that the awarded vehicle will be fully outfitted to meet emergency‑management needs.

"It looks like an awful good fit for $3,400," a commissioner said in reference to the county's budgeted up‑fit contingency. Staff noted the current emergency vehicle was not reliable and the purchase would improve operational readiness.
