The Koochiching County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously June 16 to accept a FY2027 operational enhancement grant for the County Veterans Service Officer (CVSO), covering the period July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027.
The grant is intended to help the CVSO office with rental and operating costs. "It's going to help with the rental cost," the CVSO representative said, adding that beginning Jan. 1 the grant will contribute approximately $600 per month toward rent and then fund about half of the office's rental budget thereafter.
Board members said the grant documentation is in order and will be transmitted via email for signature. A commissioner moved to approve the grant and another seconded; the motion passed on a unanimous vote.
The county and CVSO staff also discussed office preparations: staff reported they have keys, are installing computers, phones and flooring, and expect to move into the space by the first of next month. The board did not attach additional conditions to the grant approval.
The board's action authorizes county officials to sign the grant documents and moves the CVSO grant into implementation. No dollar total for the full grant award beyond the described rental contribution was specified in the meeting record.
