Interim CEO Carrie Quickin briefed the Board of County Commissioners on June 16 about Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County’s operations, capital projects and funding priorities.
Quickin said the hospital’s new laboratory and foundation space represent about a $9 million capital investment funded by a mix of county contribution ($3 million), foundation and grant funds and hospital investment. She highlighted that the county’s maintenance and capital support (including an OB renovation earmark and maintenance fund projects) were used for a range of building repairs and clinic improvements.
The hospital reported program expansions and investments: conversion to a critical access hospital designation (which improved Medicare/Medicaid payments), a recently awarded nearly $2 million grant from the Leona Helmsley Charitable Trust to install an on‑site PET‑CT in late fall, and continued growth in services including a radiation oncology offering for osteoarthritis and expanded diabetes education. Quickin also noted the lab received College of American Pathologists accreditation and the emergency department received a three‑year trauma designation.
Quickin told commissioners that Wyoming’s rural health transformation program — with state funding being routed to critical access hospitals and workforce initiatives — will open applications July 1, with award decisions expected after October 1; Memorial Hospital expects to be eligible for direct incentive payments tied to existing services such as OB and emergency care. Commissioners and hospital leadership discussed potential uses of incentive funds and workforce strategies, including local recruitment from the community college nursing program.
What’s next: Commissioners said they appreciate the partnership and will consider how the county’s FY27 budget and maintenance funds align with hospital priorities. Quickin invited commissioners to tour the new lab and emphasized that sustaining services will be central as rural health funds are distributed.
