The Sweetwater County Board of County Commissioners on June 16 approved a temporary hardship exception for Shane and Andrea Ellsworth to use up to two RVs as temporary dwellings on property owned by Lisa and Robert Adams.
County planner Cassidy Brown explained the application, noting it was submitted April 15, 2026, underwent a 14‑day public notice and received a mix of adjacent‑owner comments. Staff visits found the property orderly, and the Planning & Zoning Commission recommended approval with conditions limiting the number of RVs to two, prohibiting generator use, and requiring occupants to continue using the primary dwelling’s sanitary and kitchen facilities. Andrea Ellsworth spoke during the public hearing, describing medical needs in her family and why two trailers were necessary.
Commissioner Richards moved to approve the temporary use permit; the motion passed unanimously. The permit is valid for one year, with annual renewal possible upon submission of medical verification that the temporary use remains necessary.
Commissioners and staff said conditions were designed to reduce neighborhood impacts while allowing the family to obtain needed in‑home care.
