The Josephine County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously June 16 to authorize a renewal contract with Restorative Solutions for restorative-justice training not to exceed $20,000 a year.
Director Hyde asked the board to sign the existing provider agreement and said restorative justice focuses on repairing harm, facilitating dialogue between victims and offenders, and engaging the community. "It's a comprehensive model that's intended to be a collaborative approach especially in the juvenile space," Director Hyde said, explaining the training helps staff manage emotionally destabilized youth and build the skills needed to facilitate productive conversations.
Commissioner Richardson moved to approve the renewal and Commissioner Martin seconded. The chair called the roll and Commissioners Richardson, Martin and Smith each voted yes; the motion carried 3–0.
The director told the board the contract is included in the department’s current budget and the training is typically offered annually to keep staff up to date. No amendment or additional funding was requested at the meeting.
The decision is procedural and funds are already budgeted; the county will proceed with the renewal and scheduling of the training sessions for staff.
