Sarpy County commissioners on June 16 approved fiscal-year 2027 salary schedules and annual personnel-policy updates.
Human Resources Director Jody Redell told the board the attached salary schedules for FY2027 "include a 3% salary increase for all the non-represented groups which is classified, unclassified, attorneys and public defenders." The board voted to adopt Resolution 165 (motion by Commissioner Kug; second by Commissioner Warren).
Redell said the personnel-policy revisions are the department's routine annual review and are largely editorial. Two new policies were added to codify existing practice: a uniform-allowance policy and a local mileage-reimbursement policy. Other clarifications include updated hiring practices (requiring hiring managers and subject-matter experts to attend HR training), delineation of how long disciplinary actions remain active for progressive-discipline purposes, and clarification that out-of-class pay applies to budgeted positions whose incumbents perform all essential functions of the higher-level job. Redell said the classified policies were reviewed by the employee advisory board, the management advisory board and the personnel policy board.
A commissioner asked for a track-changes (redline) copy to help review the approximately 200-page document; HR confirmed that a track-changes/redline version was available. The board approved Resolution 158 adopting the policy updates (motion by Commissioner Warren; second by Commissioner Clug).
What happens next: The pay schedules and policy updates take effect as adopted for FY2027, and HR will implement the clarified procedures and new policies. Commissioners asked for the redline version for ongoing review and oversight; no additional implementation tasks were recorded in the transcript.
Notes: The salary increase described applies to non-represented classified and unclassified employees, deputy county attorneys and assistant public defenders; bargaining-unit or union-represented pay adjustments were not discussed in the transcript.
