Village of Manteno trustees received project updates on the Second Street pavilion and other public‑works items, and discussed an in‑kind sponsorship arrangement with the Chamber of Commerce for the Second Street Stage.
Staff reported the pavilion work is advancing: plumbing is nearly complete, mini‑split air‑conditioning units still need installation, and turf installers told staff they may begin in about two weeks. The village is waiting on an electric service connection from ComEd before some finishing tasks can proceed; trustees said events scheduled in late June and the week before July 3 make timing sensitive. Trustees discussed cosmetic options for pillars and whether some finishing work could be done in‑house to reduce cost.
Separately, a board member said they had met with the Chamber and that staff estimated the value of police, public‑works and other in‑kind support for Chamber events at roughly $15,000–$20,000 annually. The Chamber plans to vote on an in‑kind sponsor agreement at its July meeting; village staff expected to receive a contract afterward and said the village board will review the wording at its July 15 meeting with the aim of signing by the end of July if approved.
Staff also provided brief cost updates on other projects: additional stone for the pavilion (another $4,000–$5,000), an alley sanitary connection that cost $1,450, finishing work for a soccer shed (driveway and garage door remain), and upcoming roof work for dugouts. A planned $36,840 donation to Harbor House was removed from the agenda because the board agreed they were not ready to act.
What happens next: staff will circulate the Chamber contract when received, prepare the RFP/spec updates for pavilion finish work if needed, and return to the board for formal action.
