Local officials are urging water conservation after persistent low lake levels and a separate water main break led to a boil-water advisory in neighboring Greenbrier.
Conway officials said the utility placed a phase 2 restriction on customers after measuring Brewer Lake at roughly 10 feet below the level the utility deems necessary for normal operations. Customers were asked to conserve water while the lake levels remain low.
A water main break on June 15 affected the Greenbrier water system and prompted a boil-water advisory. The city instructed residents to bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before drinking, cooking, making ice or brushing teeth until the Arkansas Health Department lifts the order.
Why it matters: Low source-water levels and a confirmed distribution break present both supply and public-health risks; the advisory affects drinking water and food preparation until tests clear the system.
What's next: Officials said the boil order will remain in place until the Arkansas Health Department confirms the system is safe; Conway's utility will continue conservation measures until reservoir levels recover.
