Committee approves sale of small city lot at 4052 Chamilleia Avenue to neighbor

The St. Louis Housing, Urban Development and Zoning Committee unanimously approved Board Bill 44 to sell a small, vacant city property at 4052 Chamilleia Avenue to the adjacent owner.

Alderwoman Laura Keys introduced the bill and the clerk read the summary: the city owns the parcel, the proposed buyer is listed as William Gar, and the sale price in the bill summary is $200. Keys told the committee the neighbor had cared for the small sliver of land for years and asked the committee to allow the lot to become part of his yard so he could continue maintenance.

During committee questioning, Alderman Conn asked whether the controller's office supported the sale; Ryan Coleman, deputy controller for finance, said the controller's office was in favor. Other aldermen described the lot as an unbuildable sliver that looks better kept by the neighbor than if left overgrown. Following the discussion the committee moved and unanimously approved the bill with a due‑pass recommendation.

Next steps: The committee's action forwards the bill to the full Board of Aldermen; city staff and the department of real estate will complete conveyance paperwork and record the sale if the full board approves.
