The Avoca Town Council unanimously adopted four resolutions on Jan. 8, 2019, approving meeting rules, the 2019 budget, a general pay schedule and rules for posting bylaws and ordinances — all on first and final reading.
Town Attorney Ed McClure read each resolution in full before the council voted. Resolution No. 1-19 (Meeting Rules) was moved by Ald. Kathy Hansen and seconded by Ald. Jay King and adopted by roll call (Ald. King: yes; Ald. O'Dell: yes; Ald. Hansen: yes; Ald. Sullivan: yes). Resolution No. 2-19 (Adopting the 2019 Budget) was moved by Ald. Hansen, seconded by Ald. Thomas O'Dell and adopted by unanimous roll call. Resolution No. 3-19 (General Pay Schedule) was moved by Ald. O'Dell, seconded by Ald. Sullivan and adopted unanimously. Resolution No. 4-19 (Posting Bylaws & Ordinances) was moved by Ald. O'Dell, seconded by Ald. King and also adopted on a unanimous roll call.
The meeting minutes record no discussion on the measures prior to each vote. Mayor Robert Whitehorn noted the town’s current trash contract with Waste Management does not expire until 2020, and council members will revisit vendor selection at that time.
