Reporters questioned the U.N. spokesperson about several unfolding diplomatic and operational matters.
On whether the U.N. would be represented at a Geneva signing ceremony, Steph said she did not expect U.N. representation at that moment and that the location of the signing in Switzerland might shift; she added that the U.N. would provide updates once more information is available.
Asked whether the U.N. would participate in a monitoring mission for the Strait of Hormuz organized by France, Britain and others, Steph said the mission appeared to be more of a demining operation and that the U.N. was checking details and would follow up.
When asked whether the U.N. would encourage Security Council endorsement of any Iran agreement as in 2015, the spokesperson said it was important to see the actual text; while a council resolution can strengthen a peace agreement, the U.N. needs to review terms before commenting on endorsement. On the role of the IAEA, Steph said the agency would have a clear role in any nuclear‑related arrangements but that specifics depended on the final text.
On a separate question about the Iranian national football team’s visa situation after a World Cup match, Steph declined to comment on FIFA arrangements and said the U.N. asks its host country to deliver visas to visiting delegations in accordance with the host‑country agreement.
