Clear Creek County honors longtime I‑70 advocate Cindy Neely with resolution

The Clear Creek County Board of County Commissioners on June 16 adopted Resolution 26‑45 honoring Cindy Neely for nearly four decades of work on transportation issues affecting the county, particularly advocacy tied to Interstate 70 planning.

The resolution noted Neely’s role dating to the 1980s and cited her contributions to the county’s I‑70 advocacy, programmatic environmental reviews and ongoing efforts to protect local communities in highway planning. Neely attended the meeting and several residents and former colleagues spoke in tribute, offering personal stories about her tenacity, technical knowledge and public‑service commitment.

Public commenters described Neely as a persistent and detail‑driven advocate who helped organize local representation in state and federal planning processes, shepherding the county’s concerns through multi‑decade efforts including the PEIS. Longtime collaborators recalled her work to keep local voices in front of state transportation officials and her volunteer leadership in forming the county’s task forces.

Neely told the board she would not withdraw entirely from local issues and offered to answer background questions for staff, but said she does not plan to continue routinely reading lengthy technical plans at public meetings.

After public comment, the board moved adoption; commissioners voted in favor and the resolution was adopted on the record.
