District to raise weapons-screening fee for events, tighten facility contract language

District administrators asked the board to approve coordinated policy and regulation changes to DFC and related exhibits that will remove duplicate language, tighten facility-contract requirements (including signed contracts and clearer upfront payment expectations), and update event-staffing fees.

On fees, presenters said the district will raise the weapons-detection rate from $20 per hour to $35 per hour to reflect actual staffing needs and associated costs. Administrators said the change responds to past events where additional hours or unpaid balances required follow-up, sometimes involving the district attorney to recover funds.

The presenters explained the DFC policy will be updated in tandem with DFCR regulations and several DFCE exhibits will be eliminated to simplify the policy package. The changes were described as timely to ensure implementation before the new fiscal year begins July 1.
