Assembly Adopts SCR 89 Reaffirming Support for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

The Assembly considered and adopted Senate Concurrent Resolution 89, which reaffirms California’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Members from multiple caucuses spoke in support, describing DEI as foundational to the state’s values and economic inclusion. Assemblymember McKinner (floor sponsor) emphasized representation and urged support; caucus chairs representing Jewish, LGBTQ and Black caucuses also spoke in favor.

The chamber recorded 50 coauthors for the resolution during the coauthor roll; the resolution was then adopted by voice vote. Supporters framed SCR 89 as a nonpartisan reaffirmation of inclusion policies and protections; dissenting remarks on the floor came from members who objected to what they described as rhetoric over action.
