Copperton council approves tentative FY2026-27 budget, schedules June 17 public hearing

The Copperton Town Council voted unanimously on May 20, 2026, to approve Resolution R2026-07, which adopts the towns tentative FY2026-27 budget and sets a public hearing on the final budget for June 17, 2026, at 6:30 PM.

Accounting Manager Daniel Hoffman presented the quarterly financial statements and the tentative budget, reporting approximately $332,000 in unassigned fund balance available for discretionary use and advising a target reserve of three to six months of operating expenses. Hoffman also said sales tax accounts for roughly 75 percent of the towns revenue. Town Attorney Nathan Bracken reviewed statutory requirements for adopting a tentative budget and setting a public hearing.

Council Member Kathleen Bailey made the motion to approve R2026-07; Council Member Tessa Stitzer seconded and the motion passed 5-0. The council did not make changes to the tentative budget during the meeting. The packet contained corrected-chart follow-up notes after an earlier inclusion of an incorrect chart for a different community.

The council set the final budget public hearing for June 17, 2026 at 6:30 PM; members and the town will use that hearing for public input and final adoption steps.
