District to repurpose paving millings for Tiger Tots drive; END Paving set to begin work in July

MSD Bluffton-Harrison announced plans to build a drop-off drive and some staff parking for its Tiger Tots preschool program using recycled asphalt millings from the district’s upcoming high school paving project. District staff said reusing the millings will cut costs and provide a better surface than a gravel drive.

The presenter said the high school paving contractor, END Paving, will bring two crews and work through the last three weeks of July with a target completion of Aug. 1. The district held a pre-construction meeting and will hold a follow-up meeting to coordinate striping, including event-specific marking needed for marching-band practice.

The Tiger Tots drive will allow parents to drop off infants and toddlers and create parking for up to two staff members to support drop-off operations. "I love recycling," the presenter said, describing the reuse of millings as both fiscally prudent and practical.

District staff also said they'll coordinate the timing of the paving with other summer work, including a planned pause in campus rain-site hosting this year because of carpet replacement and duct painting in the high school commons.

Next steps: paving is scheduled to start after the July 4 holiday; district staff will continue pre-construction coordination and return with any contract details required for implementation.
