Clark board carries slate of personnel and policy items; superintendent cites strong NJDOE rankings

The Clark Board of Education approved a series of motions covering personnel, curriculum and governance items during its meeting.

The board approved personnel items 1–69 after noting two changes: reposting the head cheerleading coach position and raising the AP chemistry stipend to $3,71. The motion on personnel was made by Mr. Small and seconded by Missonus and carried after a roll-call vote that included listed abstentions by Mr. McCarrick on specified items.

Curriculum items 70–72 were moved by Miss Harrison, seconded by Mr. May, and approved by roll call. Policy item 73 was moved by Miss Melnick, seconded by Mr. Bena, and carried. The board also approved board-governance items 74–90 and consented to items 91–136 after a correction to item 97 (the amount was corrected to $1,625 from $16,250).

Abstentions and recusals were recorded in the roll call for specific numbered items (for example, Mr. McCarrick abstained from multiple K–8 and specific procurement items as read into the record). Where members abstained from particular numbered items the secretary read the list into the minutes.

In his report, Superintendent Dr. Grande told the board the district’s high school and other schools performed well on New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) school performance reports, with high school outcomes and elementary/middle schools placing roughly in the top quarter of the state. He thanked staff, PTA volunteers and donors, and outlined upcoming summer and commencement events.

The board closed routine business and moved to public comment; no additional formal board action on fiscal policy or pilot programs occurred at the meeting.
