The Hamilton Community Schools board approved several facilities projects and a small cellphone stipend at the meeting.
Administration asked the board to approve luxury vinyl tile for a large science lab at $45,290, carpeting for a converted classroom at $7,115, and refinishing two locker rooms with a new overlay and clear coat at $21,485. The presenter said those projects were included in this year’s capital projects budget and noted that classroom-door safety upgrades under a previously approved school-safety grant will proceed separately.
The board also approved a $50 monthly cellphone stipend for a staff member who serves as an on-call administrator. "He's available to us 24/7 ... I feel like Kelly is very much deserving of a $50 cell phone stipend," the presenter said.
All motions were seconded and passed; multiple items drew a single recorded opposed vote but were adopted. The administration said the flooring and locker-room work are intended to improve durability and cleanability in heavily used spaces; the science-room flooring was described as easier to repair in the event of stains or chemical spills.
The board did not alter funding sources during the meeting; administrators indicated the items were part of capital-project allocations. Work is expected to proceed under contract after normal procurement steps.
