The Des Moines County Board of Supervisors voted June 16 to approve Resolution 2026-039 to sell three parcels on Douglas Avenue to Troy M. Thompson for a combined asking price of $34,900.
The chair read the resolution into the record and identified the parcels by parcel numbers and that the county had the authority to dispose of real property under the cited Iowa code language: "Whereas Des Moines County desires to dispose of interest in real property ... pursuant to Iowa code section 3 30 31.3361," the chair said. The resolution directs county staff to move forward with the transaction and the board moved and seconded the sale.
Later in the meeting the board voted to enter closed session under Iowa Code 21.5(1)(j) to discuss sale-related matters, specifically plans concerning the 'redemption barn' on Douglas Street. The motion to go into closed session passed on roll call and the board reconvened and adjourned after the closed session.
Board members recorded their votes during the public roll calls associated with the approvals; the sale motion was accepted and staff were directed to complete the transaction and carry out the steps required to facilitate closing.
The board did not discuss additional public bidding or alternate offers at length during the open session; terms were presented as the county had received an offer at the asking price and the board approved moving forward.
