Coach Dave Ruda and Long Prairie trap team honored; team heads to state tournament

Coach Dave Ruda addressed the board to provide an update on the high-school trap team and to thank the district for support. "Most of you guys know who I am. Dave Ruda. I've been around the craft team here for 14 years," he said, recounting the program’s growth from eight founding participants to 33 this year.

Ruda reviewed recent competitive accomplishments, including a novice-division state title last year and multiple medalists in a recent invitational. He noted that 13 students from the team will compete at the state tournament in Alexandria on Friday and that fundraising and community support help cover costs; he said the team’s students typically fundraise and the district assists by providing the activity.

Board members thanked Ruda for his years of service and noted the program’s growth and safety record. The board offered formal appreciation and wished the students good luck at state competition.
