The Caswell County Board of Commissioners on June 15 adopted an opioid spending authorization resolution that identifies specific abatement strategies and funding for fiscal year 2027. Miss Williams presented the resolution, which allocates a total of $247,000 drawn entirely from the county's opioid special revenue fund.
Under the adopted resolution, allocations are: $85,000 for addiction treatment for incarcerated persons; $60,000 for a re-entry program; $20,000 for a syringe service program; $12,000 for collaborative strategic planning; and $70,000 to expand low-barrier access to medication for opioid use disorder. Williams said the resolution is required under the North Carolina memorandum of agreement governing opioid settlement funds and that funds cannot be expended on these programs until the board adopts the authorization.
Commissioner Rose moved to approve the resolution and authorize implementation and expenditures for the period July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027; Commissioner Ingram seconded the motion, which passed by voice vote. There was no general-fund appropriation for these items; payments will be made from the existing opioid settlement special revenue fund. Staff will report on program implementation and bring necessary budget amendments if the county executes contracts or agreements tied to these allocations.
