At the June 15 meeting, staff reported several park updates and commissioners pressed for greater early involvement in planning for a proposed regional sports complex.
Staff said the city received a donation/grant for 10 garbage and recycling bins for city parks; installation is expected in coming weeks. Public works staff also are preparing a CIP project to resurface three basketball courts (projects to be completed this summer, with final work expected by August–September). City Council approved the scope of the Lions Park master plan but asked staff to sequence implementation after completion of a separate 76‑acre RFP process.
Commissioners discussed how the parks commission can participate earlier in the sports-complex planning and asked for an opportunity to inform the consultant selection and survey questions. A staff member told commissioners an RFP for a consultant was due June 22; commissioners argued the commission should provide front‑end input, particularly on priorities such as pickleball court placement and broader connectivity to existing parks.
Commissioners also exchanged brief updates on playground use (positive public feedback) and small remaining expenses for playground matting. The commission adjourned after the business concluded.
