Millis water plan update: hydrant flushing, outreach to seasonal residents and final report due in July

Town staff and consultants updated the board on the draft RG water management plan and recent fieldwork. Two rounds of hydrant flushing were completed after a first‑night issue was corrected; the team also performed tap surveys and a topographic survey to inform final stormwater and distribution analysis. Staff distributed a written pamphlet and video of the training session and said the education session was well attended, making it easier for residents (including seasonal 'snowbirds') to follow guidance for returning home after an absence.

Board members said they have not yet received the typical early‑summer surge of customer complaints about cold water that has occurred in past years and agreed to keep monitoring temperatures and customer reports. One member observed that a formal letter of resolution from whoever issued the prior letter of concern would help reassure residents; staff said the final plan will include appendices and the board could consider a vote of support or acknowledgement at the next meeting.

Consultants will prepare a final report that incorporates flushing results and survey data and are expected to present the finalized plan at the July 13 meeting.
