Sumner County's Opioid Abatement Committee voted on June 15 to deny consideration of the seven applications submitted in Cycle 4 and ordered a re-solicitation using a substantially revised application form.
During the meeting staff presented identified deficiencies across submissions — missing audit paperwork, unclear budgets, inconsistent statements about program operations and at least two applications that appeared to contain AI-generated narrative. After discussion a member moved to deny the round; the motion was seconded and the chair called the vote. The committee signaled unanimous support for the motion.
The committee also approved a contracts amendment for Recovery Court of Southern County to allow funds from a prior $500,000 award to be used for fixtures and equipment following the demolition of an innovation building on the site. Staff said $80,000 had already been paid for demolition work and the amendment clarifies allowable uses under the existing award.
Finally, members approved a six‑month extension to a risk‑management contract to ensure naloxone lockbox procurement and installation can be completed and that all materials are in place for safe distribution. The extension was presented as necessary because several lockbox models are not yet available in county inventory and staff needs additional time to secure vendor stock.
The committee instructed staff to publish the new solicitation schedule and to add presentation and Q&A requirements to the process for applicants above the review threshold. Next procedural steps include posting the revised application, accepting resubmissions and conducting applicant presentations in mid‑August as part of the scoring process.
