Lawton board approves superintendent contract tweak, authorizes settlement for Eisenhower Middle School and overturns student transfer denial

The Lawton Public Schools Board of Education completed several formal actions after an executive session June 16 that addressed personnel, legal and student‑placement matters.

The board recessed into executive session to consider superintendent contract terms, private legal consultation on a settlement offer from a third‑party defendant in pending litigation over construction defects at Eisenhower Middle School, and personnel matters. The executive‑session minutes recorded that board members, Superintendent Neil Weaver and Pearson legal representatives participated under citations to Oklahoma statutes permitting private consultation with legal counsel.

After returning to open session, the board voted by roll call to approve a minor adjustment to the superintendent's contract. The board then voted to accept the settlement offer from the third‑party defendant in the Eisenhower Middle School case and authorized Superintendent Neil Weaver to execute any release or settlement documents necessary to finalize that agreement.

Board members also moved to overturn the superintendent's denial of Student A's transfer request; the motion carried by roll call. The meeting concluded with a unanimous vote to approve the personnel report listing hires and resignations as presented in exhibit A and exhibit B.

Roll‑call voting during the open session recorded affirmative votes from the board members present: Miss Claudefelter, Miss Nyward, Miss Fabrica, Miss McBride and Mr. Rice.

The executive‑session minutes cited Oklahoma statutes (Title 25, sections 307(B)(1) and 307(B)(4) as recorded in the minutes) for the closed deliberations on personnel and legal consultation. The board reported no other executive‑session action and said no additional items were discussed. Administration reported the board returned to open session at 6:35 p.m.
