The High Point City Council used part of its June meeting to present proclamations and honor community partners and a police officer.
Recognition: Mayor Sel Jefferson introduced Detective Paul Mustang of the High Point Police Department and presented him with the Guilford County Family Justice Center’s Sergeant Dell Nicks Partner of the Year Award, praising his service to victims and interagency work. Detective Mustang accepted the recognition and joined the mayor and council for a photo.
Proclamations: The mayor invited Susan Wood of Habitat for Humanity to receive a proclamation designating June 2026 National Home Ownership Month in High Point, commending homeownership’s role in household stability and neighborhood investment. Rebecca Coplin, the city’s beautification manager, and members of the B City committee were invited forward for a proclamation declaring June 22–28, 2026 as National Pollinator Week, highlighting pollinator conservation and the city's B City USA commitments. Reverend Brad Lily and others received a proclamation recognizing June 19, 2026 (Juneteenth) as an occasion to commemorate emancipation and promote civic engagement. The council also read a proclamation marking America’s 250th anniversary.
Why it matters: The proclamations publicly recognize nonprofit and community work and mark civic observances; the award acknowledgement highlighted local law enforcement collaboration with victim services providers.
