The Township of Clark council unanimously adopted Ordinance 2619 on June 15, updating local rules for motorized bicycles, scooters and electric bicycles to conform with recent New Jersey state law.
Council Member Okconor moved to adopt the ordinance and Council Member Hun seconded. After brief remarks from the business administrator that the changes were reviewed by the police department and the township attorneys and reflect the state requirements, the council recorded a roll-call vote with all members present voting yes. "These are changes that we made to comply with the state requirements," the administrator said during the discussion.
Mayor Albanese urged residents who own or whose children use motorized bicycles and e-bikes to review the ordinance and ensure they understand the new regulations. No members of the public spoke during the ordinance's public hearing.
The council did not elaborate at the meeting on enforcement details or penalties beyond saying the ordinance aligns local code with state law; staff cited police review during the introduction. The ordinance was declared adopted by the council president following the unanimous roll-call.
The council moved on to other business after the vote; a summary of other agenda items (bond introduction, consent resolutions) was presented later in the meeting.
