The Township of Clark council voted on June 15 to introduce Bond Ordinance 2620, which would appropriate $2,675,000 for multiple public improvements and equipment purchases.
Mayor Albanese and the business administrator outlined the ordinance's major line items: approximately $450,000 for repaving and resurfacing Westfield Avenue from Brandt Avenue to Raritan Road (with a DOT grant to reduce the township's share), $88,000 toward road construction/resurfacing for other roads (list on file with the engineer), $1,146,000 for communication and signal systems equipment for the fire department (including radio upgrades, hoses and rescue equipment), $65,000 for police radio upgrades, $36,000 to renovate the former pistol-range building for storage and municipal offices plus little-league restroom renovations, and $170,000 for roof repairs at the municipal building.
Council Member Hoff moved to introduce the bond ordinance and Council Member Maserella seconded; the motion passed on a roll-call vote with all members recorded as yes. The ordinance will be subject to a public hearing at a special meeting on June 25.
The mayor and staff said a Department of Transportation grant will be applied to part of the Westfield Avenue repaving project; the precise grant share was described in the meeting as a DOT grant but the transcript did not list the township's final net cost for the Westfield segment.
The ordinance was introduced; final adoption will require a public hearing and subsequent council vote.
