Scituate School Committee preliminarily approves Model UN trips to UVA and Yale (Europe); members press for equity and cost clarity

The Scituate School Committee gave preliminary approval June 15 to two Model UN trips proposed by student advisers: a domestic conference hosted by the University of Virginia and the 2027 Yale Model UN Europe conference.

Advisers described planning assumptions and early cost estimates. Heather Willinger, a club adviser, said the UVA trip would likely take about 36 students and has past comparable costs in the $900'$1,000 range; the international conference could range from $2,500 to $3,000 per student depending on final city and flight costs.

Committee members approved "preliminary" or "permission to move forward" so organizers could register and begin fundraising; both preliminary motions passed unanimously. The committee emphasized that final approval will require full logistical details (transportation, accommodation and final cost per student), and requested materials about scholarship or subsidy plans to ensure students who cannot afford full costs are not excluded.
