A coach seeking to run a 10‑week youth lacrosse program asked the Mount Hope Town Board on June 15 for permission to use the town football field on Sundays from June 21 through August.
The coach said the program would be free for families, run pickup games and practices from 2 to 7 p.m. and serve Mason Valley and Otisville students in grade bands (graduating-year groups). The coach said he had spoken with local schools and intended to coordinate equipment and insurance requirements (USA Lacrosse membership for tournament play).
Board members raised scheduling conflicts: the soccer field is already reserved on Sundays beginning July 1, and football makeup days sometimes fall on weekends. Town counsel said he could not provide a legal opinion in the brief presentation and requested more time to review liability and scheduling concerns. The board voted to table the request until after legal counsel provides guidance and after an executive‑session discussion.
The coach said he would wait for staff to provide available dates and the board emphasized any permission would be conditional on resolving insurance and scheduling conflicts.
