Mayor Tim Lowry invited St. Louis County Councilwoman Shelanda Webb (District 4) and State Senator Brian Williams (District 14) to the Mayor's Podcast to outline Junth (Juneteenth) 2026 events in Florissant, a seven-day program of civic, faith and family activities that culminates in a music festival on Friday, June 19, at St. Fernin Park.
Webb, the event co‑organizer, said the celebration will be “partying with a purpose” and that every event will include opportunities to register voters and encourage turnout in an important upcoming election. She asked residents to “get there early” for the music festival, which organizers say will begin at 2:00 p.m. and feature a mix of headline and local performers.
Organizers listed the headliners and community performers expected at the Friday music festival: blues artist Ski Rogers will open, local step troupe Gentlemen of Vision will perform, and the evening will include the St. Lunatics and the Dirty Mugs among other acts. Webb said the event will include daytime programming (2:00–5:00 p.m.) with African Diaspora performances, a lion dance and partnerships with local media.
Logistics were a priority for the hosts. Webb said organizers have increased restroom capacity and added recycling and trash bins after last year’s challenges; she also announced a record 16 food trucks to reduce lines and urged attendees to follow parking directions and bring water and chairs.
The week begins with a scholarship dinner tied to the "State of Us" event and will award scholarships of $1,000 to $2,500 to 10 rising seniors from North County high schools. Other scheduled events include a candidate forum led by the League of Women Voters, an interfaith prayer breakfast hosted by Faith Miracle Temple, a Thursday seniors celebration at Redmond North County Recreation Center, a family 'strolling with our fathers' event at Spanish Lake Park on Saturday and an Apollo‑style showcase for young adults at UMS Two Hill Theater.
Webb named Angela Rye as the guest speaker for the scholarship gala; she described Rye as a national commentator and podcast host who will speak to scholarship recipients and community guests.
The podcast concluded with the mayor thanking the guests and urging Florissant residents to participate in Junth activities across the week. Organizers said they expected large crowds and encouraged planning ahead for parking and facilities.
The week’s public events begin tomorrow, with the music festival scheduled for Friday, June 19, at St. Fernin Park.
