Commission approves rezoning of 1692 Deerwood Road to C2 commercial

The Cocke County Commission approved a rezoning request on June 15 to change the property at 1692 Deerwood Road in Newport (map 045 partial 015.02) from R-1 residential to C2 general commercial after the Cocke County Regional Planning Commission recommended approval.

The planning commission’s recommendation was read into the record and commissioners moved to approve the rezoning; the presiding officer called for the vote and the motion passed by voice vote. There was no public speaker on the record at the June 15 meeting in opposition to the rezoning.

The county clerk confirmed the plan commission had approved the request; the commission’s approval completes the local zoning action and allows the property owner to pursue commercial uses subject to C2 zoning standards and any site-plan or permitting requirements.

Any conditions or site-specific requirements tied to the rezoning would be processed through the county’s planning and permitting functions.
