At the June 12 Kootenai County budget review, several departments delivered brief FY27 presentations.
Transit: Chad reported there are no county A, B or C funds requested for FY27 and that transit operations will rely on grant funding and jurisdictional matches. Commissioners praised the brevity of the presentation.
Adult misdemeanor probation: Representatives said there are no new personnel or program requests; lease costs remain (about $13,515) and the department is eliminating its K9 program, freeing roughly $19,000 back to county funds that had supported the program.
Juvenile detention: Eric Sheffield presented several budgets within juvenile detention. He said housing revenues increased after the department raised contracted county housing rates from $150 to $225 per day; the clinician program is budgeted at $100,000 and B‑budget requests include modest increases related to staff certification costs. Maintenance and the electronic door system upgrade (presented later) were described as capital items to be discussed in afternoon sessions.
BCC office: Michelle George said the board office projects a $7,000 decrease for FY27, primarily from savings by switching the office phone plan to T‑Mobile and reductions in travel; several consultant and auditor line items declined due to completed work.
No formal votes occurred for these items on June 12; staff will return with any required follow‑up details.
