Kingsboro’s Select Board voted on June 15 to direct the town manager to begin negotiations with Drake and nearby residents to identify and seek protections or amendments to a December 12, 1968 municipal agreement that affects licensing near the border.
Resident Mary Lanzillo called on the board to “firmly acknowledge the town meeting vote” and to outline concrete next steps after town meeting participants instructed the Select Board to revisit the 1968 agreement. Town Manager Colin Moiselle said he had already met with town counsel and the state Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission had been contacted previously; he cautioned that an attempt to rescind the agreement unilaterally could lead to litigation.
The board voted unanimously to direct the town manager to work with Drake counterparts and residents to identify issues and propose amendments within 45 days, and to report status at the manager’s next update. The vote gives staff authority to open discussions and develop draft language that would be returned to the board for consideration.
What’s next: Town staff will meet with interested residents and Drake officials, prepare proposed amendment language within the 45‑day timeframe and provide a status update at the next manager’s report. The Select Board emphasized negotiation as the preferred initial step before any formal rescission action.
