A council member presented a draft Vision Zero resolution at the end of the work session, framing it as a city policy goal aimed at eliminating deaths and major injuries from traffic collisions by 2050.
The presenter said the draft action plan draws on examples from other cities and aims to be streamlined so as not to overburden staff. “Vision Zero meaning we should have 0 deaths or major injuries as a result of traffic accidents,” the council member said, and asked for directional feedback. Council members expressed general support; one emphasized the need to check consistency with Lynnwood’s comprehensive plan and another noted budget and staffing issues, including whether a neighborhood traffic-calming program is funded.
Council members asked staff to review the draft action plan and report back with implementation steps and possible funding pathways during upcoming budget planning. The session produced direction to coordinate with Public Works and the police department on enforcement and capital-program priorities; the council did not take formal action on the resolution during the meeting.
