At its June 15 meeting the New Castle Board of Works approved permits for three community events.
Aaron Dickin, speaking for Lightkeepers of Henry County, asked that Race Street between South 14th and South 15th and an adjacent block by the plaza be closed for the Junth event on Saturday, June 20; staff confirmed barricades were available and the board did not require additional restrictions.
A representative identifying herself as the vice president of the Newcastle Band Boosters (later identified as Tiffany) asked to hold a 3.1-mile race on Aug. 1 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the YMCA and running the Lelen Loop; the board approved the request by motion. The presenter said volunteers would staff road crossings during the race.
Emily Hurst of Newcastle Main Street requested use of the plaza stage on Monday, July 20 for the organization’s fundraiser, generally from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the board approved the stage use by voice vote.
All three event approvals were made by motion and carried by voice vote with a two-to-zero tally recorded in the meeting minutes. The board did not attach special operating conditions in the recorded discussion beyond standard barricade and volunteer crossing arrangements.
