Council tables $171,408 Bailey Park playground purchase after Parks board asks for details

Uniontown's City Council on June 4 tabled approval of a $171,408.93 playground equipment purchase for Bailey Park after the Parks and Recreation Board and residents asked for more information about funding and project scope.

Kelly Trott, a resident and Parks and Recreation Board member speaking on behalf of the board, told the council the board had not seen plans and requested clarity on the funding source, total project cost (including removal, engineering, drainage and installation), plan availability, and prioritization relative to other park needs. "Before we can fully support moving forward, we would appreciate the opportunity to better understand the proposal," Trott said.

The agenda listed the vendor (transcribed in the meeting as "KOMPAN") and a purchase price of $171,408.93 with payment terms of 50% prepayment and 50% net 30. Councilwoman Brown moved to table the item; a second was recorded and the council voted to table the purchase. The vote was recorded in the meeting minutes as unanimous among the members present.

Council members and staff noted the importance of maintenance plans for new amenities and suggested the Parks and Recreation Board be given the opportunity to review and provide community input before the council acts. The item will return to council when staff provides a full project cost breakdown, funding-source documentation, and installation and maintenance details.
