The Board of Selectmen on June 15 approved contracts with Envirro Express for recycling hauling, brushy waste and construction debris collection at the town transfer station and for curbside cleanup work.
DPW staff said Envirro Express returned the low bids in multiple solicitations. For recycling hauling, the low bid was $65 per ton and $190 per haul, which the town estimates at roughly $157,500 annually (three‑year total $472,500). For brushy waste and construction debris hauling, Envirro bid $50/ton for brush and $110/ton for construction debris with a per‑haul fee in line with other contracts; the board approved a brush/debris contract of $161,720 at this meeting.
Board members and staff discussed regional disposal capacity and the recent trend of facilities closing or limiting intake, which drives price variance and increases haul distances. Staff noted the presence of a fuel‑surcharge clause in contracts to address diesel price volatility and said competitiveness depends in part on whether haulers have permitted disposal destinations.
The board approved both contract awards unanimously.
