The Douglas County Board of Commissioners returned from an executive session and introduced the county's 2026 intern cohort, the board announced during its meeting. The chair invited the roughly 25 interns'high school students through college seniors who live in Douglas County'to stand; the cohort will work across county departments and on a class project with Community Services focused on food pantries.
The county's chief of staff and assistant county administrator thanked the board for supporting the Douglas County Youth Initiative and said the interns would gain departmental experience this summer. "We're very appreciative of the opportunity," the chief of staff said, thanking commissioners for providing the program.
The board said the interns are scheduled to formally introduce themselves and their cohort project at the board's July 6 meeting. Commissioners offered brief congratulatory remarks, noting the program has been running since the administration that began in 2017 and encouraging interns to provide feedback so the experience is meaningful.
Earlier in the meeting the board acted on routine procedural matters. The chair called for a motion to come out of executive session; the motion and second were recorded and the board cast electronic votes to end the session, which passed unanimously. Later, after announcing a legislative voting meeting scheduled for the following day at 6:00 p.m., commissioners moved, seconded and voted unanimously to adjourn.
