Council asked for more analysis on building-decarbonization; Sammamish hits 80% of green-power signups

In staff reports, the commission heard an update on building-decarbonization work and the city’s green-power campaign. Staff said that when building-decarbonization was considered by council on June 2, council members requested additional information on budget implications for the next biennial budget, how the policy would align with fleet electrification and capital-improvement timetables, and other implementation options; council did not adopt a formal enforcement approach and asked staff to return with more analysis.

Separately, staff reported the city has reached about 80% of its green-power sign-up goal as of June 1. Commissioners noted the milestone and discussed local outreach at farmers markets and events as next steps to increase participation.

Commissioners flagged that more detailed budget or program materials would be needed if the item moves to council and asked staff to continue coordinating across departments to align timelines and funding sources.
