SELMA, Ala. — The Selma Appearance Commission on June 15 denied a certificate of appropriateness for 110 West Wadell Street after staff told the panel the applicant could not meet parking‑ordinance requirements.
Staff member D told commissioners the applicant had been unable to meet the town’s parking and paving ordinance standards after prior, tabled discussions. “They cannot meet the requirements as described,” D said, and asked the commission to deny the COA and accept the existing testimony into the record.
Following a motion to close the quasi‑judicial hearing and to accept the evidence, commissioners moved to deny the COA (motion to deny by Miss Smith, second by Miss Rainer). The vote was taken by voice and the commission approved the denial. Commissioners also authorized the presiding officer to sign the final order denying the request.
The denial was based on staff findings about ordinance compliance rather than stylistic or material concerns. The commission recorded acceptance of prior testimony gathered at earlier tabled meetings; no further public discussion or an alternate plan was put forward at the meeting.
The denial is final pending signature of the presiding officer, who was granted authority to issue the written order.
