Trustees appoint Helen Devonso to fill vacated seat after executive session

The Fairfield Public Library Board of Trustees voted June 8 to nominate Helen Devonso to fill the remainder of a vacated trustee term.

After moving into and returning from executive session to consider nominations, the board’s chair announced, "I would like to nominate Helen Devonso as the to replace Peter's term," and trustees then voted in favor. The chair said the appointment will be forwarded to the Board of Selectmen for formal approval and then swearing-in at the board’s July meeting.

The chair told trustees the replacement will serve through the end of the next fiscal year; the board also said it is finalizing a candidate for the chair’s three-year seat and expects to have a name by July. The board took the action by voice vote and concluded its business for the night.

Next procedural steps: the Selectmen must approve the nomination, and the board plans to complete the swearing-in at its July meeting.
