Board approves consent agenda; solid waste rate increases; EV code changes and housing vouchers accepted

The Arlington County Board approved its consent agenda on June 13 by a 5‑0 vote after the clerk noted one pulled item (item #2, Arva Motel at 2201 Arlington Boulevard) that will be scheduled for public hearing during the recessed meeting.

Among the items adopted were a code amendment to give the board authority to work directly with the independent policing auditor (reflecting recent state law changes), amendments to make electric vehicle supply equipment easier to install (including allowing EV‑reserved parking to count toward required parking minimums), and the household solid waste rate set at $439.27 (a 5.7% increase year‑over‑year) effective July 1. The board also accepted $150,000 in regional innovation grant funding and appropriated $316,000 in state assistance for Housing Choice Vouchers to serve residents with developmental disabilities. Staff also reported ongoing loan steps for the Barcroft Apartments rehabilitation.

The board noted the solid waste rate action included a $30 reduction applied to the first quarter to acknowledge suboptimal service, and Chair and staff highlighted the county’s carbon‑neutrality goals as context for EV‑charging adjustments.

The pulled item will be the subject of a public hearing at the board’s recessed evening meeting.
