Troy Prior, identified in the meeting as the head cross-country coach at Rochester High School, asked the board for permission to hold a 5K run and walk fundraiser on July 18 from 8:00–10:00 a.m. He said proceeds would support the high-school and middle-school programs for supplies, team camp and equipment and estimated typical fundraising totals between $2,000 and $4,000.
Prior described logistics: the city park would be used primarily for parking, with overflow parking possible at the high school bus lot, an emergency action plan (EAP) had been prepared and he would finalize insurance coverage before the event date if the school could not provide it. He offered to coordinate with Rochester police and fire for street security at crossing points and said parent volunteers have supported similar events in the past.
The board moved to approve the July 18 use of the park for the event; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. Staff and public-safety representatives said they had no objections and would work with the organizer on final details.
